The medals of a footballing pioneer who helped form Liverpool FC are being auctioned off after the £2bn club said they couldn't afford to buy them.
The family of John Asbury were told by the Premier League giants that they didn't have the funds to purchase the £10,000 collection.
This was at a time when the club were plotting to controversially join the European Super League and when their top stars earn £220,000 a week.
