An 'exceptional' collection of British coins which was amassed by a dedicated wool dealer 240 years ago is tipped to sell for £60,000.
Samuel Birchall lived in Leeds but frequently made the 400-mile roundtrip to London to visit his trusted dealer to bolster his collection.
He was known in coin circles as a 'prompt payer' so contacts would save valuable specimens for him.
Birchall's collection, which has been split into 148 lots, is going under the hammer with London-based auctioneers Dix Noonan Webb.
