A vast collection of vintage Shell posters have sold at auction for almost £60,000.

The group of 49 sheets were sold directly from the oil giant's archives and featured some incredibly rare designs from down the years.

All of the posters had previously been used in Shell advertising campaigns, dating back to between the 1920s and 1950s.

Many of the colourful designed featured the slogan 'You can be sure of Shell' and list people who preferred their fuel.
