'Tripehounds!'
An amazing set of watercolours painted whilst serving on the Western Front by Biggles creator W.E.Johns have emerged for sale.
W.E.Johns was a bomber pilot in the fledgling RFC during the Great War, and his keen eye for detail has recorded Sopwith Camels and Fokker Triplane's wheeling through the skies.
He was shot down and captured in 1918, but after the conflict he re-joined the RAF before creating boys own hero James 'Biggles' Bigglesworth in the 1930's.
Sworders 27th June, Est £1000.
