Arthur Brand Tibet Expedition
The first photographs taken of the Tibeten forbidden city of Lhasa during the controversial British expedition in 1904 have emerged for sale.
British Army soldiers led by Colonel Francis Younghusband are believed to be some of the first westerners to enter the mysterious capital city. As a result the images they captured showed the landscape of Lhasa to the west for the first time.
The sepia pictures show buildings including monestries and forts, Tibetan Lamas and a convoy of mules.
