A 81-year-old metal detectorist has rediscovered a rare ancient gold ring worth £10,000 - 40 years after initially finding it.

Tom Clark first unearthed the seal ring in the early 1980s but put it in a tin in his mum's garage when he was told it was modern and of little value.

He had forgotten all about the find until he started clearing out the garage, where he found it tucked away.

Tom took it to an auctioneers who identified it as a medieval seal ring that would have belonged an import person in the 14th century.

He has now decided to sell it after being told it could be worth £10,000.
