Police officers on Bournemouth beach this afternoon.
A major incident has today been declared after police and the local council in Bournemouth became overrun by hundreds of thousands of visitors.
Tobias Ellwood, the MP for Bournemouth East, called on the government to send police reinforcements to Bournemouth where officials have become 'overwhelmed' by the deluge of tourists.
There have been incidents of illegal parking and camping, littering, anti-social behaviour including drunken fights among beachgoers, and gridlock on roads.
Some 33 tonnes of litter was removed from the beaches today and traffic wardens issued a record 558 parking tickets.
