Britain's premier holiday resort has missed out on £200,000 income after officials decided not to rent out deck chairs - in case they were 'weaponised' by thugs.

For generations, visitors to Bournemouth in Dorset have been able to hire the 3,500 council-owned wooden deckchairs during their summertime trips to the beach.

But the yellow and blue canvas chairs have been notably absent from the seven-mile promenade this season.
When asked why, the local authority told a council member it was due to fears over the furniture being used as a weapon by yobs.
