Despite supermarket shelves being empty of milk Dorset goat herder Richard Haskett is having to pour thousands of litres of super healthy goat milk straight down the drain.

A struggling goat farmer has revealed he has poured thousands of litres of milk down the drain as he can't sell it because of the coronavirus.

Richard Haskett, 32, a farmer for over a decade, milks 250 goats which produce 600 litres a day at his farm in Cheselbourne, Dorset.

But he is having to throw it away as his main buyer, a local cheese factory, cancelled their order due to the government shutting the pubs and restaurants they supply.

Richard would like to bottle the milk and distribute it to farm shops or milkmen but he doesn't have the capability to do this. He says he has so far thrown away 6,000 litres - 10 days worth of milk - costing him £3,600. On top of that, he is spending over £300 a day on feeding the goats and labour costs.

Richard fears his business may not survive if the situation does not improve in the next couple of months.
