A 800-year-old document from the Pope giving permission for Salisbury Cathedral to relocate because its former site was too windy has gone on public display for the first time.<br />

In 1218 the head of the Catholic church intervened after the disgruntled clergy complained that they could not hear their singing at the original cathedral sited at Old Sarum, Wilts, because of the blustery conditions. <br />
<br />
They were also unhappy with the condition of the old cathedral roof which was blown about in the wind and about being bullied by the King's soldiers stationed at the nearby castle.
