A Flemish 17th century historical tapestry, The Triumph of Mark Anthony over the Parhians, from the Mark Antony and Cleopatra cycle sold for a massive £150,000

The exceptional contents of a country home owned by the revered architect Sir William Whitfield have sold for £1.5m.

The everything-must-go sale was held by his civil partner who needs to downsize from grand St Helen Hall following Sir William's death last year aged 98.

Such was the sheer scale of the fine furnishings and decadent decor, the 570 lots had to be sold over two days.

Leading the auction was an incredibly rare 17th century tapestry depicting the Triumph of Mark Antony.
