Plans to build a huge solar farm in the heart of 'Hardy Country' that were derailed by a madding crowd are to be appealed.

Energy company Enviromena believes that during the biggest surge in UK electricity bills in the last 50 years the project is needed more than ever.

The solar panels will cover a 40 acre farm next to Maiden Newton, the village that inspired Chalk Newton in author Thomas Hardy's masterpiece, Tess of the D'Ubervilles.

If it goes ahead, it will be capable of powering 5,000 homes in the surrounding Dorchester area.
