The author Claire Dunn has slammed litter louts who caused her to break her leg when she slipped over while picking up rubbish after them.

Mrs Dunn, whose pen name is C.F Dunn and is behind the award-winning Secret of the Journal series, does daily littler picks along a coast path near to her home.

During her most recent public-spirited act, she wandered off the path to pick up a discarded beer can.

As she did she trod on a patch of wet grass, lost her footing and fell, breaking her leg in two places.
