Fancy dress parades appear to have been commonplace...
Oh What a lovely War...Camp - Unseen POW album reveals the far from grim goings on at Stalag XVIIIA during WW2.

The remarkable photos reveal how inmates kept themselves entertained inside the Austrian Prisoner of War camp by partaking in outrageous fancy dress games and pastimes, that must have bemused their German captors.

The album was compiled by British prisoner Private James Mulhern, of the Royal Army Medical Corps, who was incarcerated at Stalag XVIII-A in July 1941.

The snaps show how inmates boosted morale by putting on theatrical productions and sports days in the most eye-catching outfits.

One daring photo shows a group of prisoners in underpants striking muscular poses, while others show a group of nuns, Rameses the Great, and several of men in drag.
