Stunning historic aerial photos of seaside towns, naval bases, ports and shipyards which tell the story of Britain's once-great maritime tradition feature in a new book.
The fascinating archive of black and white images includes views from a bygone age such as Brighton's famous West Pier, Grimsby's burgeoning fishing fleet, and London's dock yards.
Iconic ships were also captured from the skies including the Cutty Sark in its final seaworthy years on the Thames, HMY Britannia in 1959, the RMS Queen Mary in 1946 and the SS Queen Elizabeth in 1969 about to make her maiden voyage.
England's Maritime Heritage from the Air, by Peter Waller, is published by English Heritage and costs £35.
