An extremely rare Japanese coin that has been in the same family for about 140 years has sold for a world record £260,000.
The Japanese Meiji ten-yen was found in an envelope with other gold coins by an auctioneer on a routine valuation at a family home in Walberton, West Sussex, and is only the fifth example known to exist.
The owner, an expert in genealogy, traced the coin back to their ancestor George Williamson, a mayor of Worcester in the 19th century.
