General views from the temple area.
Council officials have been left red-faced after a team of surveyors discovered they have been wrongly publicising a beauty spot as the highest point in the district for more than a decade.
The Temple in Heaton Park, Manchester, attracts thousands of visitors every year, mostly for its spectacular views over the city and beyond.
All the city council's signage and information says it sits on the highest point in the Manchester Metropolitan District, 354ft above sea level.
But independent surveyors have carried out detailed analysis using technology similar to a car's Satnav to establish that a far less picturesque spot 547 yards from the Temple was actually the highest point - by 8ft 6in.
