A prestigious gold medal awarded to a British winner at the 1908 London Olympics has emerged for sale for £20,000.<br />
<br />
Stanley Bacon, a 22 year old British wrestler, was presented with it after triumphing in the men's freestyle middleweight division.<br />
<br />
The prize was manufactured by British company Vaughton & Sons and inscribed 'Olympic Games, London 1908'.<br />
<br />
It shows a victorious athlete being crowned with a laurel wreath by two seated females. The reverse depicts St George slaying a dragon as a goddess looks on.<br />

The medal, which is engraved with Bacon's name, is being sold with US based RR Auction.
