Winston Churchill's exquisite oak bureau that he wrote speeches and letters on has sold for over £6,000.

The George III-era furniture originates from Chartwell, Churchill's country house residence from 1922 until his death in 1965.

The 3.5ft high, 3ft wide and 1.5ft deep piece has a fall front concealing a fitted interior, four drawers and brass swing handles.
Paperwork with the bureau reveals it was sold from his estate in 1966 and a German collector bought it at the Chelsea Antiques Fair in 1973.
