Arthur Disley was a wireless operator
The bravery medal awarded to a miraculous survivor of an airship disaster has sold for over £12,000.
Arthur Disley was the wireless operator on board the 777ft long airship R101 which crashed and burst into flames in northern France in October 1930.
The ship had taken off from Cardington, Beds, amid huge fanfare and was en route to Karachi in India when it went into a dive at 800ft in bad weather.
