An unopened bottle of beer which accompanied pioneering British explorers in the race to the North Pole 140 years ago has emerged for sale for £600 after it was discovered in a garage.
The incredibly rare bottle of Allsopp's Arctic Ale was found poking out of a box full of spirits at a house in the Shropshire village of Gobowen.
Miraculously it has survived with its contents completely in tact since it was brewed in 1875 specially to be taken on the British Arctic Expedition of that year.
The beer is now tipped to fetch £600 when it goes under the hammer at Trevanion and Dean auctioneers on June 13.
