The fine art of surfacing - Artist Mark Richards has gone to extraordinary lengths to create a lifelike 'floating' sculpture in tribute to Royal Navy mine and bomb clearance divers to be installed at Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth next year.

In an attempt to replicate the feeling of being submerged Mark suspended himself with ropes and pulleys, photographed a Navy drysuit in a local swimming pool, and reproduced in minute detail all the equipment used by brave service personnel in their perilous work.
The completed sculpture will now be scaled up to 1.25 life size and cast in bronze at Morris Singer foundry in Hampshire.
