A huge masterpiece painting by the satirical artist Robert Colescott has sold for £2.8m ($3.5m).
Created in 1980, the 6ft by 7ft painting, titled '1919' is said to be the American painter's most important work.
The multi-coloured acrylic on canvas painting combines Colescott's personal family history and identity with race in the US.
The painting was sold by his family for the first time at Bonhams in New York.
