A gold watch that was believed to have been a birthday gift to Edward VIII from Wallis Simpson has sold at auction for £3,000.

The 18ct timepiece is engraved on the back with the words 'David 23-6-52 Wallis.'

The Cyma wrist watch was a present for the Duke of Windsor's 58th birthday from his American wife whom he abdicated the throne for in order to marry.
