A rare microscope from Captain James Cook's first Voyage of Discovery to Australia which was found in a biscuit tin after 251 years has sold for more than £37,000.
The then state-of-the-art aquatic microscope was designed to identify marine flora and fauna never before observed by science.
It was engraved with the name of its owner, Joseph Banks, a scientist who accompanied the legendary explorer on the H.M.B Endeavour to the South Pacific between 1768 and 1771.
