A metal detectorist has struck prehistoric gold after uncovering Britain's oldest coin hoard worth £30,000.
Stephen Eldridge, a retired amateur historian, found 12 Iron Age gold coins dating back more than 2,000 years.
The 68-year-old was searching farmland in Buckinghamshire when his metal detector 'struck gold' in November 2019.
After going through the treasure process Mr Eldridge has now put the coins up for auction with London-based coin specialists Spink.
Specialist Gregory Edmund said while individual gold coins of this period have been found before, a hoard from this date is incredibly rare.
