A metal detectorist who picked up a signal for a horseshoe went on to uncover an English Civil War hoard of 350 coins worth an estimated £60,000.<br />

Dave Clifton, 65, had the find of a lifetime when he uncovered the masses of silver coins and one gold, some of which are 470 years old.<br />

His incredible discovery came about through a series of fortunate events.<br />

Dave, a retired local government officer from Halesowen, had been competing in the UK Open Back Gammon tournament that weekend and would not have been on the club dig if he hadn't got knocked out of the competition on the Saturday.
