The medals of a hero stretcher-bearer who tended to wounded seamen for 60 straight hours during the Yangtze Incident are being sold by his family for £20,000.

Bandmaster Fred Harwood, of the Royal Marines, transported casualties off the destroyer HMS Consort while being bombarded by the Chinese from the riverbank.

He moved the stricken personnel on to HMS London and cared for them in the vessel's chapel while it was taking multiple direct hits.
