These charming photos reveal everyday life at the turn of the 20th century in a thriving market town later made famous by a TV advert.

The black and white snapshots of Shaftesbury, Dorset, were taken by Albert Tyler who set up a photography business there in 1901.

There are various street scenes and also images of the locals in traditional attire, with men in flatcaps and women in bonnets.

Tyler photographed the busy opening of the town market in 1902, and a garden party where men played croquet.
