Hidden from view for over 40 years...New art project reopens the 1935 Wind tunnel used for testing full scale aircraft from the last century.
20th century history looks more like science fiction at the former RAE research site in Farnborough in Hampshire. The enormous wind tunnel housed in top secret building Q121 was once a key part of a complex of buildings more important than any other to the development of British aviation.
The Farnborough Air Sciences Trust managed to save the massive structure from demolition, thanks to Artliner the public can now visit various art projects at the site, and even walk amongst the 600kg mahogany blades that once sucked air round a gargantuan loop of concrete to allow boffins to test and improve prototype aircraft beginning with a full sized Gloster Gauntlet.
