A 'lost' painting by the Italian master Canaletto that was found hanging in the drawing room of an English home after 100 years today sold for over £380,000.

The 18ins by 12ins oil on canvas work was bought in London in 1920 for about £100 - £5,000 in today's money - by the mother of the late owner who died recently.

She inherited it over 50 years ago and hung it on the wall of the detached house in Lewes, East Sussex, that she moved into in 1970.
