A majestic over 400 year old ostrich sculpture which has been in the same private collection for almost two centuries has emerged for sale for £120,000.
The 15ins tall bronze sculpture was produced from the workshop of celebrated Renaissance sculptor Giambologna in the late 16th or early 17th century.
It was previously owned by 18th century politician and writer Horace Walpole who kept it in his collection at Strawberry Hill House.
The sculpture was sold by his descendants with the 'Great Sale' of Strawberry Hill in 1842 to John Dunn-Gardner of Suffolk, the self-styled Earl of Leicester, for £50 and 8 shillings - which equates to £3,000 in today's money.
