Are these the flower beds of the future?
A drought tolerant experimental meadow with 2,500 plants has been introduced at a British conservation college - just in time for the hosepipe ban.
The 1,200 sq metre meadow, at West Dean College in Chichester, West Sussex, is covered in stone mulch with 50 different types of deep rooted plants.
The beds have been cracking in the heat so homemade compost has been laid out which requires less water and fertiliser.
The seeds from the carefully selected plants will be collected later in the year and used to grow next year's batch.
