Corran Purdon back in St Nazaire with the Normandie dock behind.
One of the last hero's of the 'Greatest Raid of All' - the British operation to blow up the Nazi dry dock at St Nazaire - has died.
Major General Corran Purdon played a leading role in the audacious World War Two mission in which a ship full of explosives was rammed into the heavily-defended dock gates at the French port.
After the collision about 100 commandos, including Maj Gen Purdon, poured off the crashed ship and stormed and destroyed numerous dockside buildings.
The war veteran passed away at his home in Devizes, Wilts, aged 97.
