A fascinating scrapbook compiled by a British World War One officer which features harrowing sketches of the first day of the Somme has been unearthed 104 years on.
General James Lockhead Jack, who commanded the First Cameronians, wrote of the appalling conditions his men faced in his acclaimed secret war diary, General Jack's Diary.
Now, a 80 page A3 sized leather-bound scrap album he put together documenting his war has come to light at auction.
