Have these British dogs had there day - The Kennel Club are claiming that most Briton's can no longer recognise some of the nations most famous breeds.

As native breeds struggle in the face of more fashionable cross breeds and foreign types, the Kennel Club has launched a campaign to save Britain's forgotten four legged friends.

The organisation is concerned some breeds are now so rare they would be "unrecognisable to the British public" and is calling on people to make sure they know their otterhounds from their bloodhounds and their Gordon setters from their Skye terriers.

The campaign, Save the Forgotten Dog Breeds, highlights the 36 most vulnerable breeds which have seen their numbers decrease by almost 30 per cent in the last decade.

Last year some, including the old English sheepdog, Glen of Imaal terrier and Irish Water Spaniel, dropped to their lowest level since the list began in 2004.
