Tests involving a Project Gemini capsule and a paraglider method of re-entry

Space fans have got the chance to own a piece of history - after one of the capsules from the ground-breaking Gemini space missions of the 1960s emerged for sale.

The 9ft capsule was used by NASA to test the design and handling of the spacecraft during the highly dangerous missions, which resulted in the first ever space walks.

The Gemini missions paved the way for putting man on the moon with the Apollo space programme by testing longer space flights and perfecting methods of re-entry and landing.
Experts at Boston saleroom RR Auction where it will go under the hammer are expecting it to fetch upwards of $50,000 - around £35,000
