Government officials have made an 'embarrassing blunder' by using an image of a Russian fighter jet while trying to promote the RAF's famous Red Arrows.

The Department for International Trade is currently counting down the days to the Red Arrows forthcoming tour of the US through a series of tweets.

One of its recent posts contained the message 'The Red Arrows can fly at 48,000 FT. That's higher than Mount Everest' accompanied by the outline of an aircraft.

But the silhouette used depicted a Russian Sukhoi Su-30/33 fighter jet.
