An archive of personal letters by Princess Diana revealing her torment at her 'desperate and ugly' divorce and her hopes for 1997 have sold for over £170,000.

Diana sought support and advice from friends Susie and Tarek Kassem throughout her acrimonious and very public split from Prince Charles in the mid 1990s.

In the 32 emotionally raw letters and message cards she described how the negotiations over the divorce settlement had left her 'on my knees'.
