Archive of heroic survivor of 'Very Enjoyable' Black Friday raid in which 14 of his squadron died has been revealed.
A stoic British pilot who survived a disastrous World War Two operation that became known as 'Black Friday' wrote in his logbook 'very enjoyable' afterwards.
Flying Officer Robert Field's Bristol Beaufighter bomber escaped unscathed from the unsuccessful RAF attack on German shipping sheltering in a Norwegian fjord in February 1945.
Ten RAF planes were destroyed in the sortie resulting in the deaths of 14 crew. Four more were taken Prisoner of War having baled out.
His logbook has now been made available for sale at Bosleys auctionners for £400.
