Ciprian uses animation software to make the model look as realistic as possible.

A computer animation student is taking tourists back to medieval times with his painstaking transformation of the ruins of an ancient castle.

Ciprian Selegean's footage is so realistic it looks like someone has filmed the towering stone fortress now, but he actually digitally reconstructed what Corfe Castle in Dorset looked like in its prime.

The 22-year-old University of Portsmouth student spent several months researching the history of the important monument and then brought the castle to life using several software programmes to create a realistic, moving 3D representation.

The clever historical reconstruction makes it look as if the impressive stronghold was never destroyed in 1646 and even has a guardsman standing watch at the castle gate.

The digital image then falls away to reveal what people can actually see at the site today.
