Volunteers are painstakingly rebuilding a historic 'Dambusters squadron' heavy bomber which dropped deadly Grand Slam bombs during World War Two.

The Avro Lancaster B1 Special PD130 was flown by the legendary 617 Squadron in devastating raids over key targets in Germany in March and April 1945, shortening the war.

But the aircraft was scrapped in 1948, a fate which befell all 13 B1 Specials in the years following the conflict, so there are no surviving examples.

Now, a team of 15 volunteers at the Boscombe Down Aviation Collection are reconstructing its 14ft long cockpit using over 100 original parts.
