Salisbury Cathedral - Conservation on the west side of the Cathedral
Specialist conservationists have been roped into dangling 80ft in the air to carry out important maintenance work at Salisbury Cathedral.
Four rope access specialists from Vitruvius Conservation are working on the West Front of the historic building in Wiltshire over a three-week period.
The hair-raising method may look more dangerous than scaffolding but it is actually completely safe and saves the cathedral authorities a small fortune.
With westerly winds, the West Front gets the brunt of the bad weather causing erosion and it has 80 statues which need to be checked for loose stonework and damage.
The team abseil down from the gables and carry out work repointing and pinning any loose stone while suspended on the ropes.
