A never-before-seen self-portrait doodle by John Lennon has emerged for sale.

The Beatle quickly drew the child-like picture of his own face after he was asked to contribute to wife Yoko Ono's artist's book Grapefruit.

He produced an equally-rushed portrait of his Japanese wife along with a witty introduction to her book on art.

Lennon wrote: "Hi my name is John Lennon. I'd like you to meet Yoko Ono.'

Now, the original manuscript for the 13 word introduction and the two works of 'art' are being sold for an estimated £6,000.
