The back of the biscuit is charred slightly from its encounter with a German U-boat...
Crumbs...An incredibly rare 104-year-old biscuit that survived the Lusitania disaster is now tipped to sell for £5,000.
The round hard tack biscuit was found in one of the lifeboats from the Cunard passenger liner after it was torpedoed by a German U-boat in the First World War.
Almost 1,200 out of 1,962 civilian passengers and crew on board died in the atrocity that sparked outrage on both sides of the Atlantic.
Sapper Percy Pennington, of the Royal Engineers, was stationed in County Cork, found the snack in a lifeboat and later posted it home to his parents.
