Horse Power...

Farmer Robert Sampson is turning back to old fashioned horse power on his 265 acre plot at Harbridge, near Ringwood in Hampshire.

He shuns modern machinery in favour of the more traditional method of heavy horses to provide the raw power required for rolling, harrowing and ploughing.

And despite work taking a little longer than a tractor he saves on diesel fuel and road tax as his mighty Percheron horses are content to munch grass at the end of a days labour.

The sight of him at work using long forgotten methods frequently stops the traffic and he is often interupted to explain to passers by delighted to see horses working the fields of England once more.

Robert is a fifth generation farmer on the farm which his family have worked with horses since 1885.
