The moving diaries of a tragic World War One hero who was killed after writing 'the path of glory leads to the grave' have come to light.
Lieutenant Colonel James Neville Marshall miraculously survived being wounded nine times in battle on the Western Front between 1914 and 1918.
Coughing up blood after being shot in the lung, he told a war medic: "I must get back to the front."
