A Napoleon optical illusion owned by Thomas Hardy
A secret print owned by English novelist Thomas Hardy that contains an optical illusion and highlights his admiration for French foe Napoleon Bonaparte has come to light.
The scarce artwork was created by secret supporters of the 'Little General' to show solidarity following his defeat at Waterloo in 1815.
They adopted the violet as their symbol, and Napoleon's face, and those of his wife and child, are hidden in the outlines of the flower.
