The gold watch belonging to the richest man on the Titanic has sold for world record £1.175m, making it the most expensive artefact relating to the ill-fated liner.<br />

Although the disaster, which claimed the lives of 1,522 people, happened 112 years ago, the story of the Titanic still captivates people and collectors worldwide today.<br />
<br />
Interest was renewed in it after the wreck was discovered in the north Atlantic in 1985 after 70 years of searching.<br />
<br />
And since James Cameron's epic movie Titanic was released in 1997, the fascination has increased even more.
