Russian courage...Yuri Gagarin - first man in space.
An empty bottle of French cognac gives a chilling insight into the dangerous nature of Soviet space exploration in the 1960's.
It was consumed by Russian cosmanaut's Vladimir Komarov and Yuri Gagarin after hearing they were selected to be pilot and back up crew of the first Soyuz rocket in 1967.
The heroic cosmonauts were all to aware of the almost suicidal nature of the mission, and Komarov was later killed on the ill fated first flight later that year.
The Cognac is the French Château Meyney, Prieuré des Couleys, and was signed and dated by Gagarin, Vladimir Komarov and further colleagues in ballpen.
The bottle is expected to sell for £2000.
